proof of bank transfer

I paid a couple of bills (to the same payee) by bank transfer and have now had a letter saying that they have not been paid. The money has been paid from my account - where is it likely to be?!!!! (Other payments, again to the same payee, have gone through ok.)

How can I prove that I have made the payments - they are shown as being paid on my statements?

The statements are your proof.

Your bank should be able to supply the reference number the payments were sent under, and the sort code and account number they were sent to. Assuming the correct sort code and account number were used, the company will be able to track down your payment with the reference number.

Is it up to me to prove that I sent the payment or up to the payee to prove that it wasn't received?! I suppose what I mean is do I have to query it with my bank or does the payee have to query it with their bank?

You should send the company a statement showing you sent. Im not sure they would send you a statement from there bank.

I don't really want to send them a copy of my statement with all my income and outgoings! I suppose I could ink out all the non relevant bits.

Look at the transfers on your on line statement and see what sort code/acc number and reference you used. Check that against the bills and if they match, then that should be enough to get the company concerned to find their money as paid. Can take upto 5 days to clear, so their letter might have crossed with your payments?

Have you double checked that the reference/payment details are correct.

I've made other payments since that seem to have got through ok, using the same payment details that I originally set up on my bank account.

The payments show up on my statement as being paid to the company name. The payments being queried are from June and October 2011. I have paid the same company before and after these dates using the same details that I set up on my bank account and other payments seem ok. It's a bit of a mystery!

Most companies will accept bank statements with you having blacked out details of your salary, !!!!!! subscriptions etc as long as the transaction to them, date and your details are all clearly visible

That seems to be a long while ago for the payment to be queried now, were you not informed these payments from 10 months and 13 months ago had not been paid.

Sounds like bad admin here for them to be chased up this far down the line. If your bank has made the payment and you have sent to the normal account someone has not completed the necessary updates at the other end.
