Stolen handbag in Thailand - claim

Hi there,
Hoping you can help.
I recently returned back from 3 weeks in Thailand, had an amazing time but was VERY unfortunate while I was there. Firstly my camera fell off a sign in a national park and the lens shattered, secondly and most importantly my £350 Michael Kors handbag was snatched while I slept on a high speed catamaran from Koh Tao to Chumphorn. I kept it at the bottom of my feet and never dreamed it would happen.
However, I have a few problems:
1) I could not report to police as we had to get on an overnight sleeper train to Bangkok and then fly back
2) I returned back from holiday on 2nd July and therefore am two weeks behind in making a claim.
3) My grandma passed away just recently and everything has been a nightmare in personal life/chaos/disorganised which could account for the delay.
However, my tour leader understands what happened and is willing to make a statement.
I had insurance with Holiday Safe - how likely it is that I will be successful?
I have receipts etc.
Hoping you can help.

A police report is usually essential. Might be worth attempting a claim but I wouldn’t hold out much hope. What level of cover do you have – some have a £100 item limit.0

If MY handbag had been stolen it would have been a Mulberry;)
Put a claim in
They will either reject as you haven't fulfilled their criteria (ie filing a police report) or they will accept, and process, your claim.
Did you have any bankcards in the bag? Did you 'bother' to report THEM as stolen - it MIGHT add credence to your claim but don't hold your breath!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Luckily no as I had a money bag around me (in fact it was a freeby Qatar Airways grey bag they give out with toothbrushes in etc) in the bag I just had bits of make up, a hair brush, load of crap. Was very lucky it did not have bank cards etc in.
In all honesty would not surprise me if somebody just picked it up by mistake but there were literally hundreds on the catamaran.
I guess I can try.0 -
Just to clarify - that WAS a joke - I was robbed, once, bag stolen and I claimed for THAT bag and not another.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

As it happened they wanted a store receipt for the bag (it was from Clarks and wasn't 'cheap' although, of course, not high end. Luckily I DID have it!Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Give it a go but most insurers will want a police report and a receipt.Save £200 a month : [STRIKE]Oct[/STRIKE] Nov Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr0

Why tak a £350 handbag on holiday? You're only asking for trouble.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
