Peleponnese Holiday

Has anyone any experience of recent holidays in Greece? We would like to have a late holiday (cheaper?) in the Peleponnese. Is Greece any cheaper than in previous years?
Have checked out flights and it would be £480 for two return to Athens plus a car hire of £150 and then its about 5 hours drive to the Peleponnese with some nice stop offs en route. Or we could fly direct to Kalamata which would be £572.
I remember a few years ago getting rooms on the day wherever we wanted to stay and that was about £30 a night for a basic room with fridge and if you were lucky air con. Thanks for any experiences/advice.

Years since I stayed more than the odd night on the mainland (ish...), but haven't noticed much inflation on most islands over the last few years (actually deflation in quids over the last couple of years).
£30 a night sounds expensive unless you're going in August - we normally get a 'basic' (not crumbly...) room with a/c for €20-25 (£16-20) a night, larger place with separate bedroom €30-35 (£24-28) - varies by island really.0 -
Thanks Manathome. It was a while ago and also in August and there were 3 of us sharing then so it sounds about right what you say about the prices. We'll be there at the beginning of September so hopefully the prices will have come down by then. Just hope you can get a decent Greek Salad and bread nowadays - it makes the holiday along with the Retsina.0
