Having spoken to ebay via live chat, and contacting the selller as advised, (and getting no joy), I raised a dispute through paypal as an 'item not as described' (good working order). I never got the oportunity to return it but if I did, it would involve a 2 minuite car drive, same as collection.
Thanks.

To be fair, if you bought from a private seller, and it worked fine when you bought it (which you admit it did), you have no legal right to expect it to last a reasonable time or to have any kind of warranty, as this does not apply to private sales. It worked when you bought it and it was described accurately at the time you bought it - just one of those things.
When people get a bargain then "eBay's great!". When things don't quite turn out as the bargain they hoped for... "eBay sucks!"
Im a private seller an i once sold a brand new item - after 1wk of use the buyer claimed that although the item worked (by this i mean powered up) it just didn't work to his expectations and said that the item was faulty - the end result was that ebay sided with the buyer and offered them a full refund upon return of the item - they sent back an empty package - they still got their refund!!!!
An item working for 15mins should not be taken on the chin and be seen as 'hard luck' - ebay certainly didnt issue that way of thinking with me & my dispute.
The buyer surely deserves a working item - that's what they paid for?
On the flip side - i received an item that was not as described - opened up a paypal dispute and was asked to return the item - i did so and it was received back within 24hrs. The buyer 'claimed' there were items missing from the package (it was a large bundle of nail technician items - so contained hundreds/thousands of separate parts) - i won the claim but the seller appealed and was eventually also refunded the full amount - so they sold a dodgy item, got it sent back, made up a pack of lies and then got a nice little token payment - and they still had the item to sell on - which they did do a week later!!! Funnily enough the items they said were missing from the package were listed as being present and correct in the second listing!!!
I would personally fight paypal/ebay as i dont think this is right..you bought and item and it doesn't work....0
