Peleponnese Holiday

Has anyone any experience of recent holidays in Greece? We would like to have a late holiday (cheaper?) in the Peleponnese. Is Greece any cheaper than in previous years?
Have checked out flights and it would be £480 for two return to Athens plus a car hire of £150 and then its about 5 hours drive to the Peleponnese with some nice stop offs en route. Or we could fly direct to Kalamata which would be £572.
I remember a few years ago getting rooms on the day wherever we wanted to stay and that was about £30 a night for a basic room with fridge and if you were lucky air con. Thanks for any experiences.
