I have a laptop with windows 7 and all the updates installed on it using windows update.
Can I take my laptop to a friend and connect it to his desktop computer so that he can update his computer from my laptop as he has just reinstalled windows and he only has a 1Mbs internet connection, he lives in the sticks, and it will take hours for his computer to update?
Also where are the updates stored on my laptop after they are installed or are they not stored anywhere?

Don't be silly.
But you can download the Service Pack on to disc or USB drive, then install that to his computer.
windows6.1-KB976932-X86.exe - This application installs Sp1 to a 32-bit machine running Windows 7.
windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe - This application installs Sp1 to a 64-bit machine running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2.0 -
I do have SP1 on a USB drive, it is the rest of the updates he needs. Over 100 are listed.0

He'll just have to bite the bullet. Easier than doing this.0 -
