Insurance-do they need to know ?

Our House has full house insurance. I van has accidentally damage the wall of the garden, and they have accepted responsibility. I not think they are aware of what it will cost to repair. one option I am considering is asking for their company 9van ) insurance and claiming against them. Good idea?? do i need to involve my house insurance- don't want to lose my many yearts no claims. any advice?

    Yes, good idea.

Send an estimate for the repairs to their insurer and ask them to confirm they will pay the cost of all repairs.

Er, you DO need to involve your insurer. Not to do so will invalidate your policy and probably won;t be an issue when you do need to make a claim.

Do no not lose your no claims if the other party pays up - and you also have the right to pursue the other party for any uninsured losses (new garden wall, turf etc).

Contact your insurer, provide them with all the details you have, and the two insurers will resolve the issue between them.

    Why?

The OP is perfectly entitled to pursue the third party himself. His NCD cannot be affected if he does not make a claim!! Nor will he have the hassle of still having to pursue the third party to get his excess back!

(You don't invalidate your policy by not claiming off it!) To comply with his policy, the OP should check the policy wording and see whether or not he needs to report the incident for information only.

Does the insurance database cover car and other insurance?

Claiming from their policy may put it on record and you would need to declare it as an incident.

If you dont they can use that as an excuse not to payout later.

It is not the issue of pursuit that it the problem, but the fact HIS insurer will require notice of the damage to the insureds property, so that ongoing risk can be assessed on that basis. What should or should not be done will be covered by the small print, however most of the policies have reviewed in the last 5 years do stipulate this. (As to motor policies, to continue the car analogy).

Whilst you might wish to pursue the 3rd Party, you may feel competent and happy to do so, and your insurer may additionally be happy to let you - however - if you are required to notify and do not, this just stores up trouble for later. The insurer that pays out will inform Insurance Hunter of the claim payout, and it is this that will give the game away should there be any subsequent claim.

So the answer is - you don't invalidate your policy by not claiming off it, but by not informing your insurer of any risks that have resulted in ANY issues with the property covered.

The claim against the company will go down as a motor claim against them on the CUE database (if their insurers subscribe). It will not go down as a household claim against the OP unless they claimed against their own home insurance.

As far as I know, there's not usually any obligation to report every "incident" to your home insurers. If there were, on that basis, if you have accidental damage cover, surely you'd have to report every glass you drop and every stain you get on your carpet?

Where do you get this idea from? Your poor advice originally was that the OP should just let his insurer sort this out with the motor insurer - now you tell the OP about a "FACT" you cannot possibly know!

    Are you Vax in disguise?

You certainly don't have to report repaired damage on most household policies.

Yeah but is the database shared? If i have make a claim on one can they check the other?

I guess it makes sense, So you dont get something stolen from the car and put a claim in then also claim from the home contents.

    Its the same database.

The full version just has different tabs at the top of the page to search under- ie one for motor, one for home etc. What they access too will depend on what the insurer has paid to have access to.
