Hi guys,
I'm hoping someone can help, I have two seperate, though possibly related issues. My computer runs Windows 7 x64
The first is a reasonably new ( but cheap) usb pci card which stops my computer turning off it works fine otherwise. Only started this recently but its definitely the card and I don't think its windows related because windows itself shuts down, the computer just won't power off.
The second is wireless card that I haven't used for sometime ( and it was therefore disabled within windows) now no matter what I do it produces a code 31 error, I've downloaded drivers from multiple sources, removed restarted reinstalled card etc, trawled in the internet on solving code 31 errors. Nothing seems to work.
Both devices work fine previously in my PC and both work fine currently in a windows XP PC.
Any thoughts or help are apprecitated

For the USB card, have you looked at the power management options for it in Device Manager? Try unselecting the second option if it's ticked.
For the wireless card, have you checked on the manufacturer's support website to see if they have drivers specifically for 64 bit? If not, it may be that they have never written one, in which case you may simply not be able to get it to work with your current OS.0 -
Hi, thanks
The Setting you suggested isn't ticked, but as I say I don't think its windows related. Windows shuts down correctly and the hard drive shuts off and everything, just the power and fans etc stay on. But it I press the reset button windows starts correctly and there is no message that it didn't shut down correctly.
As for the card it is Tenda branded but the chip is a ralink RT3062, as far as I can see it should work and the drivers are available. As I said, it used to work in my current system.0 -
Strange... I'd check the CMOS settings... Do you have the latest BIOS revision for your motherboard?0

Well the power off problem is fixed, don't really know why, no explanation, I had had the card in and out and in multiple PCI ports and it did the same thing everytime. But after trying it on the XP computer I put it back in and its working fine.
No further forward with the other error, and don't really know what to do. Tenda technical support are a total joke and I emailed ralink but got no response0 -
No? You mean companies don't reply instantaneously these days.
I emailed them before I posted here, and was merely commenting that I hadn't had a response as of yet...
Still no further forward though, I just don't understand0 -
So I made matters a million times worse ( though probably because of an already underlying problem)
Was desperatly trying to work out what could be causing the issue, decided Cisco VPN might be responsible so uninstalled that. On rebooting my connection was showing as disconnected in the taskbar, thats the sort of thing that really annoys me. So after trying several other things I went to uninstall and reinstall the driver.
And yes you guessed it code 31  So now I have no internet connection at all and am at a total lose as to how to fix it. Its got to be a windows issue but the only solution that keeps coming up online seems to be a re-install.
Would be really grateful of anyone who knows an easier fix to this.0 -
Jeez, not a single reply
Come on guys I'm relying on your superiour technological knowledge and expertise, there HAS to be a way to fix this with reinstalling or repair installing windows.
Thanks0 -
Still not a reply....
Guess I'm going to have to try and find somewhere else to try to get assistance0
