Don't hit me if I've got the wrong forum/place - apologies, newbie...
Daughter travelling to Australia at end of August for 12 months. Working 3 months, 3 off, 3 more months working and another 3 off before travelling back to UK.
Looking for the best insurance to cover the whole period, to cover loss of camera, IPad, mobile phone, passport etc etc.
Any and all assistance greatly appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi dickiemint,
Thank you for asking this question. My daughter is planning to do exactly the same thing, leaving late October.
My main concern is medical insurance and repatriation in the hopefully unlikely event that it would be needed. I too would be very grateful for any advice,
Pink
Edited to add, your post prompted me to look for other threads on the same subject and there are a few:
best Travel Insurance for one-way to Australia for 12 months please?
Insurance for 6+ Months in Australia
Insurance for a year whilst on WHV in Australia??
Working holiday insurance for Australia0 -
Having looked through those links we're going to check out the
sta travel , columbus and medicare websites to find out what would be best for her.

Thanks vm for your responses Pink.
System at work stopped me replying earlier and checking out any other threads.
Have looked at sta, also looked at outbackerinsurance
Will check out the others once home. Thanks againdickiemint0 -
I personally used "Flexicover Direct" - as I took my laptop and struggled to find anyone else who covered them (don't know if that's relevant to you?). They weren't much more expensive than the others, and when I had to make a claim (I lost my phone) they handled it pretty well and sent a cheque to my home address within a week or so at most.0

Thanks Callum.
Yes, laptop/Ipad/mobile are all relevant so will have a look at Flexicover.

Its amazing that I was trying to sort the same thing out myself today! I rang Bupa - just to get a quote - and was told that if I was merely going to Australia and not New Zealand, Thailand etc and was going to be working then I'd have to contact Bupa Australia themselves.
Its a bit weird because I don't know if I'll be working the whole year or half or less - I just have to wait and see.
I was advised to look at flexicover too as I have Crohns and someone I know who has it is covered. I'm going to check out all of the above links too though.
And is travel insurance for laptop/phone/luggage/flights etc while health is purely health so to be right you would need both?0 -
It's a few years since I did this myself but I used http://www.duinsure.com. I had to extend the cover and also make a claim and both were fine.
Make sure you get cover that includes hazardous sports if there's even a small chance you might want to try white-water rafting, bunjy jumping, skydiving etc.
Another tip - if you're spending a short amount of time elsewhere in the world quite often you can just by cover for the 'main' region you're going to (e.g. Aus/NZ) and it automatically covers you for a certain number of days elsewhere; you don't need to buy worldwide cover.0 -
I used Endsleigh as they had policies that covered working abroad - not all backpacker polices do so make sure you check. They listed all the types of jobs they covered.0

Depends on the different in price. I decided to go skiing there and managed to get insurance from a random US insurer specifically covering that for a day for around £5.0 -
Thanks for replies Scania Man, RunningMan, Claire, Callum.
Have checked out a few of the suggestions, all seem pretty much of a muchness... Good to know that http://www.duinsure.com/ happily extend and pay up if required.
Have had a couple of discussions as to what is a 'backpacker' and what isn't which have proved fun. Daughter is working as Nurse so technically not a backpacker for 6 months of the 12.
Once we plump for the chosen company I will post on here. Thanks again :beer:dickiemint0
