Range Cookers - questions?

Firstly, are Range Cookers modular - is it possible to switch the hob for another one? We are strongly considering buying a house with a gas range cooker: I am not used to gas, have seen what a faff gas range cookers are to keep clean (friends have them) and much prefer an induction hob (for safety - we have young children - and ease of cleaning).

If we have to replace the range cooker (kitchen is good, so do not want to replace at this time - otherwise would go for wall mounted ovens and seperate job....), can anyone give advice on range cookers (especially induction ones)? Which ones are good? Which ones to avoid? One feature I do like, is that some have (or the possibility to fit) telescopic shelf arms.

Ranges are generally modular, most coming in sizes from 80-120cm and you can certainly buy them with induction hobs though you will almost certainly have to run a new cable to the cooker point as they need a higher rated cable than most appliances.
