My ex partner works cash in hand and has told me he would just sign on if i take him to the csa.

I know he would do this and still work, is there anything that can be done.

You don't need much information. Just plant some seeds in the DWP's investigation file. They'll call him in under interview. If he then denies working cash in hand and not declaring the profit he can be prosecuted at a later date if he is then found out.

Could you come to a private agreement without CSA involvement?

unfortunately there is a history of mental abuse, not just with me but with his previous partner. He has a very bad attitude and its impossible to reason with the man. Too be honest id rather not have anything to do with him if i can help it.

Department of Work and Pensions. They would be the department paying him Job Seekers Allowance (JSA). If he rents and claims HB (Housing Benefit) you can also notify the council and if he claims WTC (Working Tax Credits) or doesn't pay the correct amount of tax you can also notify the HMRC (Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs). Notifying the main one the DWP should trigger investiagtions with all the other departments. Nothing might happen and you won't know if something does happen it'll just make him think about it when he's called in for an interview under caution.

Hi. I’ve moved your thread away from the Citizens Advice board as your question was not an area the CAB representatives are able to help with at the moment. Hopefully you will receive a better response here. Please see this rule and if you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.

  • Is your ex paying you anything right now? If not, it seems like you've nothing to lose by taking him to the CSA and you have ample evidence to shop him for claiming while working.
If he is giving you some money and it's enough for you, why upset the apple cart? alternatively if it's affecting your finances (i.e. your ability to claim benefits) then you might as well go for it.
