which travel insurance for an inter rail trip

One of my daughters is going on a three week inter rail trip and I am trying to arrange travel insurance for her.
I am not bothered about insurance for personal possessions which is already covered.
However, she needs insurance for medical expenses.
I also would like to get her some insurance for incase she misses connections and needs to arrange alternative accommodation or travel. I know that if she misses the connections because of her own fault eg she does not leave enough time or gets lost, but I am thinking if she needs medical insurance, something gets stolen or lost and she has to sort it out. That sort of thing.
Also it would be nice if she could get insurance if she needs medical treatment abroad and I have to go to visit her. ie my expenses and accommodation. I am not sure whether this is possible or not.
It would also be nice if the insurance covered her costs if one of her travelling companions was ill or lost something. Not sure whether this is possible.
I am not bothered about the cheapest insurance, but am more bothered about the most comprehensive as I think with a trip like this there is more potentially to go wrong.
Does anyone have any experience or recommendations?

For that type of trip, which is not really organised or a package, you could look at companies that offer the 'independent traveller' option. Various companies offer this, including John Lewis, Endsleigh.

Always best to phone companies and get information from the 'horses mouth'.

No point people on MSE answering questions on claims situations that might occur, as it will depend on the exact situation for any claim and how the policy applies to that situation. Write down a few questions that you want answered and then when your daughter phones companies she can ask.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
