Being chased for debt after completed IVA

Options
Hi there,

I usually hang around these boards to keep up to date with advice / money saving tips but for the first time I actually have a question that I'm hoping someone knowledgeable could help me out with please? :)

I completed my IVA last year and now all defaults etc have dropped off my credit reports (YAY!). But despite this I have recently received a letter from Rockwell Debt Collection Agency regarding a debt that was definitely included in my IVA. They know the account number but there is no mention of the IVA in their letter to me. It's the standard 'pay within 10 days or all hell will be unleashed unto you' debt collector letter.

Now do I;

a) Ignore?
b) Send them my completion certificate and other IVA docs? (which does not include a list of creditors btw)
c) something else?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me!

p.s. have checked Noddle and Experian - no sign of this debt anywhere

  • Hi

    This does not sound right

Have you spoken to the IP / IVA company that administered your IVA they should be able to help one would think (hope)?
  • Hi thanks for replying :)

I just called the IVA company and they have told me to send the completion certificate. I'm not entirely convinced that this will work as there is no list of creditors on the certificate and so, knowing what debt collectors companies are like, I think they will either not believe that this debt is settled or just ignore it and continue.

It does seem a bit weird that I can still be chased for this even after it being completed, and with no defaults on file etc but I'm guessing that someone somewhere has not updated records correctly and so the debt has been sold on to this company...?

Anyway I think I will try sending the certificate anyway with a cover letter saying that this debt was included in the IVA, so could they please update their records and I now consider the matter closed (for what it's worth!).

    Cheers

    Hello there.

The completion certificate should do the trick. At the same time ask for a copy of the agency's complaints procedure. If they do not close the file then do consider a formal complaint. Really hope the certificate does the trick!

    Best wishes,

    Hi

Best to send a copy and not the original certificate, always keep the originals safe is my motto.
