Washing Machine for Under £250?

Morning fellow Money Savers :-)
I have never had to buy a washing machine before and kind of at a loss of what to look for
The washing machine in the house I rent is on its way out. The landlord said he was leaving it as a favour and it would be up to us to replace if it goes. It simply is not up to the job and just does a bad job washing clothes and leaving them feeling fresh.
I was hoping some people could offer advice on a decent washing machine for under £250. I could probably stretch to £300 as it can be bought 12 months 0% finance from Argos using their store card offer. Black is the colour of choice but its seems most models come in various colours anyway.
Any advice would be welcome

To get 0% finance I do :-(
I was looking at all of these yesterday and am at a total loss over which brands are decent. Everything seems to have great reviews which strikes me as a bit odd.
I know what I am buying when it comes to PC, Laptops and Televisions but totally dumb when it comes to home appliances.Total Debt Feb 2012 [STRIKE]£12,153[/STRIKE] 10674 16.5% Paid

I wrote a slightly critical review of a product from there and they rejected it, which may explain the good reviews.
Biggest saving seems to be this one

Also look for a machine you like on amazon and see if there are any user reviews for it
Also google a machine name reviews

I have to say that Argos lost me as a fan some years ago. Not convinced by their own brands, although they are probably cobbled together in the same factories as others.
For named "brands" you may find better prices on the web, once you have decided what you want, that would more than cover the finance differential.
Double check the running costs as the cheaper ones often use more water and power as will bigger capacity ones if you don't actually need them."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

There is only two of us and we seem to get through about 4-5 loads of washing a week between gym gear, work stuff, bathroom linen and bed clothes. I was thinking 7kg would be enough without worrying too much about stuffing it full every time.Total Debt Feb 2012 [STRIKE]£12,153[/STRIKE] 10674 16.5% Paid

My washing machine gave up the ghost about four months ago. I rent and white goods are my landlord's responsibility so this is what I was given. I was a little sceptical at first but have been delighted with this machine as it washes really well and can cope with 6 kilo loads. It's well in your budget too.

I would first double check with the LL whether you will have to leave a washing machine when you leave.
If it is on the inventory, you will either need to amend the inventory / get his consent in writing to it being deleted from the inventory, or you will need to leave either the original broken one or a replacement one. Don't rely on a verbal assurance - get it in writing or you may just get stuffed at leaving time.
If you do have to leave it behind, I'd go for freecycle to minimise your outlay and subsequent loss.
If you are able to take it with you, then there are some good suggestions above.0 -
I can take it with me. He is a friend and was leaving it as a favour.Total Debt Feb 2012 [STRIKE]£12,153[/STRIKE] 10674 16.5% Paid
