Mine takes ages, usually 6-7 full working days so if I transferred last Wednesday in the morning I would not be worried until at least this morning. If you are concerned give paypal a call, there number is available easily on their help page.

PayPal are in the habit of delaying funds transfers out to bank accounts as long as possible. This protects PayPal in case the funds in question are subsequently reversed or place on hold. PayPal also has use of the funds as part of their float which generates interest.

If you want funds from buyers to arrive in your bank account faster - there is a simple solution: bank transfer. It's not only days faster, but it's safer for sellers and it's entirely free :-)

  • digerati, how many sales would you generate if you insisted on a bank transfer? not many! I offer Paypal, Cheque/PO and Bank Transfer as my accepted methods, but of the 470 odd sales i've achieved on eBay only 2 people have transferred into my account direct from theirs (1 was actually a deposit in branch) and only 9 or 10 have paid via cheque, the rest are all paypal payments!

First, let me say that I'm sorry greenstreetprince that it doesn't work for you...

However, I get a surprisingly high take up on customers using bank transfer - over 90% from the UK and EU.

How do I do it? Well, I don't insist upon bank transfer, but rather I offer incentives in the way of cheap S&H and next-day shipping if paid via bank transfer (including BIC + IBAN), MoneyBookers, cheque or postal money order. I also offer discounted or free shipping to repeat customers if they pay by any method except PayPal. (It's all basic consumer psychology.) Customers that wish to pay via PayPal must pay substantially higher prices for Special Delivery and handling, plus I make it clear I'll only ship to confirmed addresses in the UK; no international sales via PayPal. (This is the negative reinforcement part.)

The majority of customers are happy to rely on my excellent eBay feedback and clear refund policy, rather than PayPal - especially as dealing direct with me is much cheaper. I also heavily promote my lower website prices to all my eBay customers.

Why do I do it? Some of my sales are quite large so I want adequate protection against charge backs after experiencing a few PayPal ones several years back. They were not covered by PayPal's Seller Protection even though I had signed, recorded delivery and shipped within 7 days to buyer's registered address. Fortunately, I did recover the merchandise after getting the Police involved.

    Works for me! :-)
