My BT phone bill query

Received my phone bill of £62.67 this weekend, and was wondering if there are any ways of lowering it with BT. I only use my BT line to connect to the net with O2 and maybe make a few calls with the phone.
Here is a breakdown of the bill. Hope it makes sense.
Unlimited Evening and Weekend Plan (21 Jun - 20 Sep) £53.25
Credit Evening Calls + Friends and Family Mobile Deal -£2.04
Friends and Family Mobile £4.65
Payment processing fee £5.67
Phone Usage (5 calls - 2 UK phone and 3 UK mobile) £1.14
Total - £62.67
What I would like to know is, is it possible to just have a basic BT line rental without all these plans and deals?
Also, my O2 broadband contract expires in November, which I'm paying £12.50 a month, and as my road is already connected to Virgin Media, I was thinking of moving to VM for fibre optic broadband and phone.
Would I be better off by switching from BT and O2 to VM? Thanks in advance for any info and advice.

VM cable or National? Basically all suppliers skin their customers different ways - if you trusted them with a DD you would save on the processing fees, so Virgin's value is greater discounts due to taking mor services.0

VM Cable are not especially cheap for phone calls. You need to consider your options carefully, look at the type of usage you have and see which company would give you the most cost effective service.
It seems to me you are paying for extras you don't use. You might be better using 18185 for some calls and what's wrong with DD?0 -
You are paying a processing fee:eek:
Pay it by DD and this disappears for starters.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
Thanks to you all for your replies. Yeah, I can see the obvious benefit in paying by DD. lol. Unfortunately at present I don't deal with the bills. I'm going to wait till November as that's when my O2 broadband expires, and will transfer my phone and broadband to Virgin. As you can see from my original post, I make very few calls, probably no more than 8-10 every quarter.0
