Robinson Way Limited Letter

Hi,
I recieved a letter on friday from this company layed out as such:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Previous address:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Fur the purpose of validation, we believe that you used to live at the address noted above. If you are not that person, or you have any queries or concerns, please use the freephone number below to let us know so we can ensure our records are correct.
08000852958
If you are the person named above, you may also use the number to contact us.
Yours faithfully

Now ive been making a great deal of effort to get rid of all of my debts, and to my knowledge the only debt I have is to my bank, I did live at this address but only for 5 months, and all bills were transferred to the remaining tenants when I moved out, and due to the short notice I agreed to forfeit my deposit. Since reading this letter I have contacted the remaining tenants and asked that everything was in good order when they moved out and they have confirmed that there were no debts and everything ended amicably with the landlord.
I have checked my credit file with a credit report agency and everything comes back green, no odd debts that I dont recognise. I have noticed other people have recieved these letters and been told to ignore them. Should I do the same or should I ring them and ask them what this is all about? I would also add that this letter apart from having my name on it and date of posting, has no reference number on it.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated, recieving letters like this make me nervous.

They are just fishing...ignore them if there is nothing on your credit report.
It could be something like council tax.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I would reply to them in writing with something like:
To whom it may concern,
In reponse to your letter (dated). I would like to inform you as you do not know whether I am male or female (hence the sir/madam). I am not prepared to confirm any of my past addresses.
I believe this to be a fishing trip by your company as if you had firm evidence to back up your claims as to where I lived and who I actually am, I am sure this letter would not be worded as it is.
I would also like to point out that if you do not have my details and you cannot not confirm yourselves my past addresses or full name that your letter and subsequent letters asking me to confirm my past addresses can be viewed as harrassment.
therefore, unless you can prove my past addresses and name I am now asking you not to engage in harrassment letters.
Kind regards

I think, at this stage, any contact is just going to encourage them...
Wait and see if they allege something definite.0 -

Thanks for all the advice guys, I am going with "ignore", and as fatbelly said "wait to see if they allege something definite". Especially as ive downloaded my credit report and nothing odd showed up.0

Afternoon Xsag,
I also would recommend hitting the ignore button (particularly if the letter was not addressed to you by name). Every letter I've had from Robinson Way has been addressed to my name.
I've got a (fairly) long running dispute with them (detailed in this thread : https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/3586363 ) if you want some opinions on just how persistent and inflexible this company can be.
Regards,

The only debts I had when I lived at the address they are querying with me were with my bank, (which I am still paying), I was unable to get credit from ANYWHERE. The only other debts I had where all from when i was 18-21 and were all CCJ'd and cleared at 27. This leaves the only possiblity that they have bought an unpaid utility bill, however I was not responsible for the bills at the property in question (as i was only living there friday nights - sunday mornings, and lived there for a total of 5 months). The problem I have with this is that it might be quite hard for me to prove this....but as you say, I have ignored their letter until they substantiate what it is they believe I owe and to who, if anything, they may be trying to contact me to find someone else perhaps?0

I should add, based on the information in your case, that if they were pursuing me for a debt, that they would of already added a default onto my credit file before they sent their first letter (I assume), and my credit file is clear (as of yesterday).
The letter was addressed to me by name as well and having read your case I am now significantly more worried about it than I was before you linked your post.0
