M&S 'wedding' cakes...do they do sponge as well?

I've seen lots of reference to M&S cakes on here. We're getting married abroad but I'd like to get a cake when we get back. I had a look in our local one and they had the large fruit cake but I'd like to get sponge, mainly as my H2B doesn't like fruit cake.

Does anyone know if they do them in sponge as well as fruit?

Yes they do and they are delish! I had the sponge for my wedding 2 years ago and it was absolutely gorgeous
Good wine needs to breathe, if it stops breathing try mouth to mouth.

I did look on the website, found plenty of cakes, but not those ones :o. I'm obviously not looking hard enough so will try again!

Great, thanks :). I've had them before (just as a normal sponge) and that's partly why I thought of them as so yummy. This is great news!

Their sponge cake is lovely. Does anybody know how far in advance you have to order a cake? We are ordering three separate layers which we will put together ourselves.

Watch the sizes, some people are disappointed as they expected them bigger.!

Well I've still got 10 months to consider it but I think we'd have enough with a medium and so shall get large to err on the side of caution :rotfl:

I think it is more the height of the tier, I was surprised to see how 'thin' they were actually.

I have managed to find a lady through facebook who does the most amazing cupcakes and wedding cakes, at the moment she is running an offer for a 3 tier wedding cake for £100 or 100 cupcakes with giant cupcake on top for £100 . I have ordered a giant cupcake for my mums birthday next week as a trial ;)

Very happily married on 10th April 2013 :D

They DO do sponge. I believe you can also get them in chocolate as well. Have a look at Sainsbury's cakes too - I think they do suitable ones for weddings. I'm not a particular fan of fruit cake myself - but I have to be especially careful as I'm allergic to nuts!

At my brother's wedding, my mum made the wedding cake (nut-free!) "in lieu of" a present. If you have a relative who's handy in the kitchen, they might be very proud to be asked... just an idea... :)

Ultimately, it is YOUR (and your OH's) day. So your choices rule.

Have a fabulous wedding and celebration afterwards - and I wish you and your lucky H2B all the very, very best for a long and happy future together. xx
