But thats on a run. On my ussual very short stop start heavy traffic journey's i have had less than 30mpg from it.
Was it broken? I did a run as a test. 28 miles each way, 50% NSL A road, 50% city/town rush hour driving. Achieved nearly 70MPG on the trip computer which worked out to about 65MPG in reality.0 -
Thanks for all the replies - to clarify size wise I was just looking for something slightly shorter than the estate - which is why I'd considered the Focus hatchback.
I do sometimes need to transport what could be considered large items (such as a bale of straw) which I know will fit in to a reasonable hatchback (it certainly fitted into my old proton hatchback).
I need 5 doors because if I do carry passenegers they, like me, are not agile enough to get in and out of a 3 door.
Have looked at the Honda Civic and this has been added to my shortlist. I prefer to get ideas on a forum rather than have to listen to the blarney from the guy in the garage (particularly as a female customer I find they try to exaggerate the mpg etc).0 -

Nopes runs well. Try resetting your trip then taking 45 minutes to travel less than 5 miles. Check the trip then.
4 roundabouts which take fairly brisk acceleration unless you want the journey to last over an hour.
Once it took me 2.5hours to cover the same journey. Its a nightmare around here.
On a clear run i can do it in under 10 minutes. Thats how bad it is.
If i lived further away i would get clear stretches of dual carriageway, That would bring the MPG way up. But i dont.
I pull out into the traffic and sit in it all the way to work and back.
Then i take the inlaws to the doctors, So the car either gets stop start or i leave the engine ticking over whilst they get in and out etc.
Honestly if you did my journeys you would think, wheres my fuel gone.
But im used to big thirsty cars.
Just spotted on another thread your average speed on the trip is 40mph.
Mines between 9 and 12mph. Shows you how mad it is around here.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Jeebus. I retract my previous comment then. I think I'd consider walking if it was that bad, lol.0

skoda fabia , we have one and its a very good car , easy to get in and out , good on petrol averaging about 40 to the gallon on short trips , 5 doors and plenty of boot space .
we was lucky to buy brand new , but 2nd hand skodas are a little hard to find but hold their value wellThe original janiebaby0 -
Little test, I was going down the M6 today to Hinckley, Near J5 it was clear so i reset my average mpg.
Came off at J3 (A444) As i got to the roundabout it was showing 61.4mpg.
Skirted around Nuneaton and onto Hinckley. When we got there it was showing 58.6mpg
Came home via the A5. Average for the journey 59.4mpg.
So its not running badly at all.
It must know im thinking of changing. It doesnt want to goCensorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
