Gumbet recomendations

I am booking my holiday online in a few hours time (just waiting for the wallet to come home from work).
We went to Turkey last year (my second visit) on a last minute holiday through icelolly.com (never again). Ended up going all inclusive in a joke of a hotel which was on the verge on closure and demolition.
However we made the best of it and had a great time and met some brilliant people there (including a former MP). We have been invited back there for a wedding on September 1st aboard a boat.
Rather than go to the same resort (gulluk) we thought we would go someplace different nearby so we are about to book Apartments La Maison in Gumbet. It's £814 for two self catering through the co-op.
After the abysmal Summer so far here in the UK on the south coast were it has rained every day since April 11th except for 6 days in May I just want to feel the Sun on my face and be able to sit outside and read tons of books.
On my first visit to Turkey I stayed in Bitez and on a few evenings would get taxis into Gumbet but I have never been there in the day light- any tips or recommendations please.

is there nothing in Bitez accommodation-wise?
Gumbet is very lively at night, La Maison is central (ask for a room away from the roadside, because the road that runs along the bottom of the hotel is one of the busiest in the resort come evening). Its about 5 minutes walk to the beach, less than a minute to the nearest restaurants and bars, 5 minutes walk to Bar Street. If you have mobility problems, be aware that the La Maison entrance is halfway up what the repeat Gumbet visitors call "heart attack hill"
.
I prefer the beach at Bitez, but if Gumbet is where you are, I'm sure you'll find a bit of beach somewhere to call your own for your holiday

We are both fit and in good health! The reason we have gone for Gumbet is simply price driven, it took an age to get my holiday approved at work and by then choices were limited.
I am happy sitting by the pool all day reading but will at some point venture to the beach. Not having too far to walk for an evening drink is good as my friend has a tendency to fall over and kiss the pavement once he had had a few.
Thanks for the tip about the road, we have chosen this hotel as there is a separate living area to the bedroom and the reason we went self catering is last time we hardly ate at the hotel as it was so bad and we don't tend to get trollied on free booze during the day.
All we have to do is get from Gumbet to Gulluk for the wedding.0 -

Just booked it!
Having a foreign holiday is not an annual guarantee (unlike the good old days)and if it does happen it is usually fairly last minute and a treat. I am one happy person this evening.0 -
Have a great time - if you get a chance there are some great places to visit on the Bodrum Peninsula0
