Broadband Problems

How is the OP going to manage if thieves cut/steal the cable? Then your phone (and everyone else's nearby) will be out of action for around 10 days.
That's the typical time to repair such a "problem", and no amount of priority service will affect how long it takes to sort out the shambles and re-connect 1000 odd lines.
(I know - its happened to me)
Something to think about if you totally rely on broadband for some aspect whether that be for business or for personal use.
and yes, 2-3 working days is typical/good for a voice fault repair time depending on whether it is across a weekend and the amount of other work/faults which are already in the pipeline for fixing when yours is reported.0 -
Nice solution assuming it is Virgin cable. That gives you two separate physical lines coming into the house, so if one is damaged, the other may still work.
(And my Sky BB problems were really BT line and exchange issues.)0 -
Thanks for your comments. I am using Orange Broadband and they have taken over the BT phone line as well. Its still not up and running (been since Saturday night) so currently sat here using a 3G dongle.
Thanks for the comments about business broadband. I normally work from the office, its just that we are have refurbishments taking place so its only a temporary thing working from home. I will definitely look into it though as I'm thinking of starting my own business and wasn't aware about the terms and conditions of personal broadband when working from home.
Thanks. I hope it come back soon!0 -
Glad you got sorted Jennie.
It's just taken my SIL the best part of 3 weeks to get a residential line sorted out, where to begin with it was only lost broadband but the phone was OK: first a techie to check the wifi setup/hub (fine); then ISP TalkTalk and all the tests they insist on doing for hub etc (and during this period the phone line also died), and finally BT (who on testing insisted the fault was showing in the house and she'd be charged if it was). The BT callout was finally arranged last Friday and the first available appt was yesterday -- engineer came, lovely guy, and the fault was on a pole about 100m from the house. All fine now, but not a straightforward or exactly rapid process, involving two different call centres in India for TalkTalk and BT.~cottager0 -
Even with a business one there is no guarantee it will work - my problems were twice to do with wiring in the exchange and once because of water in the manhole causing a short, which would have affected any service.0
