Car Insurance

My daughter is going to lend me her car and wishes to remain the registered keeper of this vehicle. I have over 9 years NCB and would like to become the policy holder using the NCB is this able to be achieved legally?

This link may help you. https://www.askthe.police.uk/content/Q743.htm

If you will be the main user of the car, you would need to complete the V5 to tell DVLA that you were now the registered keeper. This does not mean that you are the owner.

Then contact a local broker and see of they can arrange a policy in your name. Although you are not the owner and therefore do not have Insurable interest that way, some Insurers may be prepared to issue a policy in your name. But you need to tell them.

That article just goes to show why the police should get on catching murderers, racists and rapists instead of wasting our money "advising" people on things they don't really know about!

    eg:
............with a company car which is owned by the company, however the registration document should show the registered keeper, i.e. the day to day user (this may be an employee who has it as a permanent perk with his/her job).
Most insurance companies insist that the person who they insure is the primary user of the vehicle

Is your 9 years no claims currently used on another car?

Will you be the sole driver? Or adding your daughter on?

This will shout FRONTING to them. Where a younger driver pretends
an older driver is the main user.

Lots of pitfalls if you get caught in that trap.

Car towed, Fined for no insurance 6 points, Lots of companies will load future premiums if they offer cover at all.

Well Quentin, if you know more about the legal situation, perhaps you should contact the website and correct them.

I think the information could be improved, but it is aimed at 'average' members of the public, who would not have day to day dealing with Car Insurance/ownership matters. Sometimes too much information can be confusing.

The site is run by the Police.

    I've never heard this before
This is particularly true with a company car which is owned by the company, however the registration document should show the registered keeper, i.e. the day to day user (this may be an employee who has it as a permanent perk with his/her job).

According to DVLA website, the registered keeper should be whoever is responsible for registering and licensing the vehicle. I find it unlikely that company car drivers would be responsible for buying the road tax.

Back to the OP, can your daughter add you as a driver (and main driver) to her insurance?

There would be different types of company car. The above relates to a car that is the sole responsibility of one company employee. But they are unlikely to have any involvement in getting the car tax, as that would be dealt with by whoever does the admin for the cars. There may also be cars, which are pooled and driven by various people, so would be shown on the V5 in the companies name. But the company would have a requirement to have records of who had access to cars and for what period.

Makes little difference - no company (in their right mind) makes their employees the registered keepers of a company car! It's just poor advice from the police.
