Does DWP ring?

Hi,
I had a strange phonecall on Friday last week from "DWP", It was a foreign lady wanting to check my claim for income support, there was a big spiel about giving the correct information, fraud etc... She said the phone call would take about 15 minutes.
I asked them to call me back on Monday as I had people over at the time.
I wasnt comfortable talking to this woman, I've never been rung by DWP before I am abit concerned as to whether this is a legitimate phonecall or a scam?
I've not long had my 6 month thingy at the job centre.
Was wondering if anyone knows if this is normal or not?
Thanks

I would always err on the side of caution with anyone asking for personal details over the phone. If in doubt then ask them to put their questions in writing, or arrange a face to face meeting at their offices.
IF she does call back then try asking her for her name, office address and extension number, then call the DWP and ask to be put through to her.
Alternatively, call the DWP helpline first thing and ask them to note a password of your choice on your records. If a caller is then from the DWP they should be able to see this password and recite it back to you."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0
