Hello.... New to this site but desperately need help!
My husband recently applied for a car loan and we were quite surprised that he was declined... He has never had any late payments etc. We got a copy of his Experian report and realised that Santander our mortgage provider have listed us with incorrect dates of birth (I've got his, he has mine) this has been the case since 2008. we were actually turned down by another provider when we remortgaged 2 years ago but assumed this was more to do with the financial climate, we have not had any other cause to apply for credit until now so the mistake went unnoticed. I wrote to Santander who have now written back saying that the mistake is actually down to the independent advisor we arranged our mortgage through as they provided Santander with incorrect info (although I can't believe Santander didn't confirm our identity!!), the independent company we used has now gone into liquidation....
Santander have said that they will arrange to correct our credit files, we just wondered if there is any avenue open to us so that we can complain? We lost the car we wanted to buy, have ended up paying a higher rate for our mortgage and suffered embarrassment all because of a typing error - I need to vent my frustration at someone!!!
Could anybody offer any words of advice please? thank you!

Your complaint is with the broker, so as closed down no complaint. However I don't think this is the reason for the declineDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0

How could you prove any of this is down to an incorrect DOB on your Credit File?
Whatever car you dreamed of, is still on a forecourt somewhere, they do build more than one.0 -
I know.... it is just frustration really - found one that we loved tha as a really good deal... ah well - maybe the wheels would have fallen off as we drove away!
Interesting that you do not think this the reason for the decline? We have an otherwise clean credit history - no problems with mortgage - we have a fairly low LTV, one other small loan from previous car with very little left to pay (no problems making any of the repayments over he 5 years), one rarely used credit card where any spending is always paid back fully.... this is the only thing that seems 'wrong'... do you not think that a compleely incorrect DOB on a listing would be viewed badly then?0 -
I tend to agree, I don't think it'll be the DOB. How much was the the car as a percentage of your wage, also what is your current debt? Finally are you on the electoral roll?0
-
The car was £16,000, the loan was in my husband's name only - he earns approx £48k so I guess that is quite a high %....we are on the electoral roll, current debt is £1,500....
Perhaps you're right that it is the % of the loan against earnings - the loan was to be over a 5 year period....
The only reason we thought it was to do with DOB was because initially one of the credit agencies we checked our files with apparently had issues establishing identity (Callcredit) also Nationwide whom we had applied for the loan with (after doing their 'soft quote' and being quoed a pretty good rate) old us that it was to do with adverse information - this was the only adverse thing we could find....0 -
Seems strange you'd be rejected when he's on that wage, you might have better luck with a loan from your bank, over 50% of a wage is a risk so I'd imagine most lenders would accept you. Make sure you get that error fixed just to be sure.0

Probably "lack" of credit history or the so called "thin file" effect.
Not really any credit except a mortgage and then BAM, 16k for a banger.....guess they just smelled a rat.
As Apples says, in a crazy attempt to make a profit, they do tend to produce more than one car of the same model so there's rafts of clunkers out there if you look around.
Good luck."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0
