Help with travel to Watford during Olympics

Hello All,
Looking for advice from locals to Watford and the Harry Potter Warner Bros tour thingy.
I am planning to come and visit during the summer holidays. Would I be best to wait until after the Olympics are over (12th August) or will my journey (probably from the South West of England by car) not really be affected by that?
Any other hints on getting there would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Roberta

Are you driving directly to Watford or going via London?
Are you staying overnight?
Which motorway are you coming up and whats your e.t.a at Watford0 -
If you are driving, I doubt te M25 is going to be that bad during the Olympics. Just Avoid going through London. There use to be a coach from heathrow to Watford junction... Might be useful?0

Not sure about that, the M25 could well be worse than normal especially on certain days0 -
The M25 on the east side is going to be bad - it's one of the routes to the M11 which is direct to the Olympic Park in Stratford and all the park and ride.
Have you checked which dates you can get HP tickets for? That could be your starting point. I live about 15 mins drive from Watford in Borehamwood - and it may be just as easy to stay at the Travelodge on Elstree Way (it's quite near the A1) and then pop over to the HP Exhibition from there. You can go A1 to the M25 J23 and then come off at Hemel Hempsted 3 junctions to the west of it - then it's all signposted from there.
We often go that way if we are going bowling in Watford as the HP exhibition is near to the Leisure Park.
If I were you, I'd come after the olympics - best bet is w/c 20th August - after all the athletes have left and before the Paralympics really get geared up.
If it's anything to go by - traffic is already bad - my normal 40 minute journey to work in West London is already taking us an hour because traffic lights have been rephased and of course, some of the games lanes are already in operation.0
