Sky box keeps jumping to menu page

I was visiting an elderly friend yesterday. She has Freesat from Sky. The TV was on in the background & while we were talking the Sky menu page opened/popped-up. She put it back to the TV programme, presumably with the backup button. Five minutes later the same thing happened, and then for a third time before she'd even had time to put down the remote. No more re-occurrences while I was there (about another 30 minutes).
Her son has been to have a look at the problem & has tried unplugging the box and a couple of other things, but obviously without success.
Has anyone come across this before or have any suggestions on how to fix it that I can pass on?
I've had a quick look on the Sky forum but couldn't see anything that looked similar to this.
