Are you cable or ADSL? Which ISP are you using? Have you done a speedtest? What part of the day do you have this problem? Are you using a wired or wireless connection? Others in your household using the same connection?

I ask as the most likely issue is that you are suffering from lack of bandwidth, or maybe your ISP is throttling (traffic management) yr use of the net. It is also possible at certain times there maybe contention where too many users are trying to access the same services/site at the same time, typically evenings are when this is likely to occur.

NB If using iplayer, the BBC has confirmed some technical difficulties over the past week.

    cheers rob

I'm on ADSL and with madasafish (plusnet) and it is wireless, connection
speed is 4.2mb/sec download and 0.349 mb/s upload

this can happen any time of day but I mainly use it in the evenings and weekends...there are two other users in my house but it also happens when I'm on my own as well.

This has been going on for some time now, well before the bbc announcement

    Does this help http://www.madasafish.com/support/internet/provisioning/traffic_management/traffic_prioritisation.shtml

Also using wireless is always inherrently more variable, is it worth doing a trial with a wired connection?

When you get the glitch is it worth doing a speedtest just to see if the speed drops significantly? http://speedtester.bt.com/

I have noticed here that my speeds are down at the moment, getting below 6mbps, whereas I normally get nearer 7 - just wondering if the very wet weather is giving BT some probs in their underground trunking?

None of the above solves yr problem but might explain; I do occasionally get this problem too, sometimes post midnight when traffic should be light, but its never so intrusive that I've felt the need to investigate.

    Sorry can't be more helpful

Your symptoms mirror what I was getting trying to watch Wimbledon on iplayer.
I can't be certain, but it may be the result of the complete disaster that was Adobe's update to Flash player to 11.3 over a month ago now.
    Possible solutions are here:-
    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-doesnt-load-video-firefox

    http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/flash-113-crashes

FWIW downgrading to Flash 10.3 solved all the problems for me, even though it goes against everything I've learned to use anything but the latest version.

There is more flash player discussion here. http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer/using_flashplayer?view=discussions
