Buying in Germany/Getting a mortgage for foreign property

Looking into buying a flat in Germany.
Looking at spending about £20,000. (Parts of Germany are cheap). Do you think I'd be able to get a mortgage on such a small amount? I know that German lenders don't like to for small sums - and it's also difficult not being resident in Germany, so I would need to use a British lender..
My personal savings are about £5,000.
(I am a student in England and plan to move to Germany after my studies).
