Hi All,
My last printer, an Epson has given me no end of trouble. Not wanting to spend £30-£40 on a set of ink cartridges, I used compatible ink which wrecked the printer. Further research shows this to be common with Epsons.
I'd like to replace it with an all in one which is cheap to run. Using genuine ink would be ok, but it looks like all printers use expensive ink. Though Kodak claim to be cheapest & longest lasting ink. It'd probably be more useful to get a printer that is reliable with cheap compatible ink.
Can anyone recommend one?

What is the budget for the new printer?
How important is scanning resolution?
Can I ask in what way is the current one wrecked?0 -
I personally have a epson SX200 all in one, I use compatibles with it and never had a single problem with it in the 3 years i've owned it.
Maybe the problem you had with your previous ink was the supplier, I use ink-power from ebay. on printing looks just as good as epson ink, note: epson dont make their own ink.
at the time of purchase the ink was 14 cartridges for £10, and each contained 18ml
if I was looknig to replace my epson today.
I would probably buy the epson SX445W compatibles are about £7.99 for 12 from recommended ebay sellers.0 -
Thanks guys, haveing had the epson replaced by epson and the same thing happening again, I will not be having a third.
Not sure on budget. WOuld rather spend more for cost effective printing & reliability.
current scanner is 2400 x 2400 dpi but i think i always use 300dpi0 -
I have a Brother DCP-J315W, and its a cracking machine, just sort of works. I was paying £2.90 for a set of 4 compatible cartridges on Amazon for a while, which seemed every bit as good as the originals.
Only faults, its no where near as fast as I expected, and there is a much bigger decrease in quality of the print, on fast setting than I have seen with other printer.
It also doesn't print photos well wirelessly, I'm guessing cause it doesn't have the memory to store all an image file before it starts printing.0 -
I use Epsons and do get the odd one which is a problem, maybe there is an inherent fault with the model you have?
If I changed from Epson, Canon would be my first choice as they look good and usually get good reviews

If you right click the printer and click printer properties, do you have anything on the advanced tab for
Spool
Start after last page is spooled
Print directly to the printer
If so, maybe worth trying different settings0 -
Thanks for the replies so far.
I'm quite interested in the Canon's suggested above.
Also like the idea of the Kodak printers. They claim they are the cheapest to run, but obviously that is based on using genuine ink. If using compatible, the comparison is perhaps not as important. I imagine the Kokak's to be high quality too?!
Alternatively, I'm quite tempted by the £20 HP all in one at Argos.
My last HP printer had a poor paper tray, but the ink lasted forever!0 -
Have a look here for some decent advice

Then spend £70 on the HP Photosmart 55100
