Working out how long to pay

Could some explain to me please how you work out how long it will take to pay off a credit card. I have 3 cards which I am paying off due to an ex (long story) anyway my bank have said I have a pre-approved loan and can consolidate them all together to pay them off, I've looked at the monthly charges of the loan over, 2,3,4 and 5 years and am trying to work out a comparison between just paying the cards off and not tying myself into debt longer than necessary.
