It's not unusual to have the application refer especially if you are new to Santander or have not been at your address very long.

It's certainly annoying - I guess I will just have to get used to it. They do say it stays on your file for a minimum of one year. I have actually just sent a subject access request to CIFAS to check the info they hold on my file. As I said I use Equifax but I am not sure the information is exactly the same between different credit reference agencies (including expererian).

Yeah a google on Santander reveals quite a few moans and groans. I have actually had an account with Santander in the past, though that is long since closed. I do however have an account with Cahoot (they are Santander aren't they?) and I have been at my address over 10 years.

    OK update on this.

From a phone conversation I just had it seems pretty standard that applications go to the underwriters just to credit score you and check you are eligible for the product (Santander;s words lol).

I had a phone call today (on xmas eve - Merry Xmas Santander staff!) - the purpose of which was to check it was me making the application. After confirming my identity I told the rep that I knew I had a CIFAS marker on my name and she confirmed that was the reason for the call.

Anyway, application has all gone through fine so, at least in this instance it does appear that a CIFAS marker doesn't harm your application - they just do a few more checks.
