best way to dispose of 3000 A4 sheets

Hi all, I need some advice though I'm afraid there is no cheap/easy way out of this.

I ran a small charity that closed 7 years ago and with clearing out my home office I realised I have 1000's of documents that I don't need any more. These I'm happy to tear in two and use my local waste department. But I have about 3000/4000 A4 sheets that have some other more personal/sensitive information on them that I need to dispose of fully and carefully.

I could shed the 3000/4000 sheets but its a lot of shedding time is there some other way (apart from burning) to permanently get rid of all these pages?

    I'd wait till bonfire night.

Some people soak their waste documents and claim it's an effective way of destroying the them and the information contained on them. I guess you could try with a few sheets to start with to see if it works.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

That's an interesting good idea and a new one on me. Maybe I could add a splash of bleach into the water as well to reek some more damage to my docs. Thanks for that:T

You would need more than a splash of bleach to have any effect on 3000 sheets of A4.

    A bucketful maybe....

Google secure shredding and your town - you may find it will only cost you about £20

As you ran the charity, you need to ensure you destroy the paperwork securely, to comply with the Data Protection Act.

What I do is to wrap all my veg peelings in them and they go straight to the compost bin. Over time they all quickly get eaten by worms.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I'd prefer to do a bit at a time until it's all done. A handful a day will eventually clear it all without it feeling like a huge task.

I vote for the fire method. Grab a beer, go out the back and burn some paper.

Well, I'm testing the soaking with water and bleach method over night with 20 pages. I'll report back on how I get on.

As I mentioned in my original post since this is personal info if this method does not work flawlessly so all the pages are completely unreadable I'll go the burn to ashes method as the critical part for me is the complete destruction of the pages and if that take time so be it. Thanks for all the ideas so far...........

I agree, do say 5 x piles of 20 a day and it'll take you less than a month to shred them all, whilst not feeling that big a task. Alternatively have you any kids / nephews / neices? Kids love shredding and Im sure they would sit happily and shred for an hour and get through it all if you pay them a fiver. (probably would do it for free though!)
