Water tastes metallic

Hey everyone.
We live on a new-build estate. The row of flats that we live in was completed in December 2011, along with a majority of the houses opposite us.
Our water tasted like "building site" water at first but a Brita jug corrected this.
However, over the past week, week and a half, the water has had a very strong metallic taste, despite the Brita jug. It is like this from both the tap and Brita jug. We have changed the Brita filter and also bought a new jug, to no avail. We have also made sure we run the tap for a while to see if this helps but it doesn't.
We haven't done anything to our property or changed anything so we're not sure that the problem is, but as someone who is pregnant, I am worried about the fact that there is something in the water that could be harmful to my unborn child.
Does anyone know what possible causes may be?
We do have a washing machine but it was a "gift" from the HA and already here and plumbed in when we moved in. We haven't changed anything with regards to the washing machine (I have read that this can sometimes be a cause).
Thank you in advance.

This is the very reason I won't drink tap water. Ours reeks of chlorine - tastes awful. Even the kids won't drink from the tap!0

I am but it was my husband who noticed it as I hadn't had tap water in a while and then when I tasted it, I noticed it too. It is pretty much undrinkable.2019 Wins

If it doesn't improve soon, it could be worth contacting your water company to see if there's some contamination in the water. They should be able to test it.If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
We had a similar problem arise - water was reasonable from the tap but made hot drinks taste metallic - this is apparently classic "backflow" from the dishwasher or washing machine. I know that your case is not the same but we called the water company and they could not have been more helpful - sending out free one way valves and saying the chief-bod I was talking to would come out personally if that did not fix it. I was very impressed but after all, it is their job to make sure we have water of a reasonable standard and get fined, etc if not.
I wonder if your neighbours have the same problem as you?0 -
Thank you for the replies.
I got in touch with the water company and I was just sent info about the backflow/washing machine thing.
However, my husband tested the bathroom cold water and that tastes metallic too, so I don't see how it is a washing machine problem. =/2019 Wins
