Hello all,
I provided EON a set of meter readings on the 16th Feb and moved out on the 28th Feb. On the 28th a meter reader came and read the meter. The property has been empty with no furniture and all electrical items like Cooker, heaters, water heater turned off at the wall and the fuse box. I had people move in on the 11th July and they provided meter readings. All readings are below-
16th Feb (READ BY ME)
Day- 04911
Night -02328
Storage heaters-03818
28th Feb (read by meter reader)
Day-05217
Night-02422
Storage heaters- 03818
11th July (read by agent)
Day- 07313
Night- 01306
Storage heaters- 04016
13th July (read by my brother and tenant)
Day- 07348
Night- 03108
Storage heaters- 04022
My brother was the only one with a key and in the time it was empty he got my post in once and a carpet fitter fitted carpet in 1 day. So how cand the meter show that I have used 2131 day units 686 night units and 204 on the storage heaters??????
Eon are saying I have to pay it and even suggest i must have left a plug on! What can I do, I can hand on heart on my childs life promise there was no one in the flat and nothing was plugged in that would use more electricity than i did from Nov-Feb HELP xx

The obvious conclusion is that the 11/7 readings are incorrect (whether by accident or design.) so you'll need to verify them.
Are you even sure that the readings taken on 28/6 were correct? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I know the ones taken on the 15th are correct as I was the one that took them. My units per day last year from March-Aug where 2.5pd (day units was at home all day with my newborn) this year on the empty flat from feb-july works out at 18pd??0

Before you go any further make sure you take a photograph of the meter, and then get a group of people to agree what the photograph shows the reading as.
I think you need a slightly different mindset. Unless successfully challenged for inaccuracy a (correct) meter reading is proof positive of consumption. Whether you were in/out/plugged/unplugged is not relevant to E.ON. If you do not agree a particular reading on a particular bill you need to formally dispute the reading. In that case the E.ON "must pay" attitude is not competent and you should Complain if they persist.0 -
they have issued a final bill and i am disputing it, they have opened a complaint. they all (bar one) have said they believe it was empty and that my account is a mess! the meter by the looks of things is not reading right or been read right. thank you for your advice xx0

The meter readings on 28 Feb - by the meter reader - are compatible with the OP's readings on 16 Feb.
However the agents readings on 11 July indicate that the night reading had decreased by over 1,000 units from 02422 to 01306!!
Could the carpet fitter/OP's brother inadvertently switched something on that used the electricity - immersion heater?
Posts above refer to '15th'(OP in post #3) presumably this is the 16th Feb??
Post 2 talks of a reading on 28/6 - could this be 28 Feb??
Does the meter have a digital readout, or is it pointers on dials?0 -
Yeah sorry the 1st 2 are in Feb 15th and 28th (though eon say its the 16th and 28th)
No cause everything was double turned off (fuse board and at wall for storage heater and water heater panel for water) the carpet was only fitted 3 weeks prior to the flat renting and went into the flat the week after and the hot water was running cold as I cleaned out the sink (dead spiders) and wiped of the sideboard, also even with the water heater on when I was living there the reading was not that high, last year it was for the 6 months from March-Aug I was using an average of 2.5 units a day and had a new born so the water was on twice a day in order to give him a bath and me a shower and do the washing up. the 3.5 months from march-July the average units is 18 a day. the reading has gone crazy, im on economy 10.0 -
Someone tapped into your supply whilst the house was empty ?The meter readings on 28 Feb - by the meter reader - are compatible with the OP's readings on 16 Feb.

A typo I think, it has gone back up by 13th July

Its seems that the agent submitted the read with the digits the wrong way round. However, if you correct them it still shows a small movement up to the new tenant moving in 2 days later.
You need to do a test to determine if the meter still moves when everything is turned off. So, switch it all off again as you did before and see if the meter still advances.
If it does, either something else is attached or the meter has a fault. The former would have to be some form of tamper since its not going via your fuse box.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0 -
Is the meter in the flat itself or in a communal meter cupboard with several other meters?
If it's the latter then the meter you think's yours actual supplies another flat.
Edit. The fact the meter was read twice when the flat was empty suggests the meter isn't in the flat.0 -
Hi amandajb
My first thought was similar to stewie_griffin. If the meter is in a communal area, it may be the meter we've been charging against isn't the one registering the electricity going into your old flat.
If you still have access to the meter, check the serial number on the front matches that on your bill. If it doesn't we're probably looking at a crossed meter issue.
This is just a thought and I could be well wide of the mark.
You've done exactly the right thing in raising a complaint. Clearly, something is wrong and following the complaints route is the way to go.
The advisor who has the complaint will follow this through and escalate if necessary. This includes sorting out any potential cross meter issue with the team who look after this.
