Hi, I am currently with EON on a fixed price deal until April 2013 with an £80 cancellation fee.

British Gas have offered me a deal with them that offers £100 cashback now and another £100 in a years time.

I currently dont have a standing charge just pay per unit, BG has a standing charge.

I will get back withe KWH I use later, but would say I am an average user - works out about £35 per month electric and £50ish gas.

Does a standing charge work out more expensive?

I dont have a clue, can compare like with like but that is it

thanks in advance for any help

SC or NSC should make virtually no difference unless you are a very low user-the higher unit rate on a NSC tariff cancels out the SC.
But if you run your kWh figures through any comp site using each tariff then it will tell you the difference-which should be no more than pence.
You can't begin to find the best deal without your annual kWh figures--that is the starting point for everything (do not use monthly DD amounts on the comp sites, as then they do not give accurate results).

Are you a BG homecare customer and were you offered this by an engineer?

What tariff were they offering this on? If its standard you could probably save the same amount by using another suppliers cheap tariffs.
  • It is a case of taking how much gas and electricity units you use and working it out. I am currently on an EON tariff which charges a premium rate for the first 900 kw of elec and 2680 of gas. When you cost the difference between the higher rate and normal rate for these units i am actually paying a standing charge of £213 per annum which compares with british gas of £178.
British Gas are usually the most expensive for gas but this deal is particulary good. I was offered the deal and struggled to get the actual tariff from the salesperson but it is the same as their clear and simple tariff. On top of the £200 cash back there is a 6% discount for a monthly direct debit payment, £15 per annum for dual fuel and i think there is a discount for internet paperless billing. All in all it was the best deal against all the competitors including when you go through cashback sites.
