Good Morning
Can anyone help?! Me and my wife have a 6 month old and shehas decided not to return to work after her maternity leave. That has left justmy income.
Just spoke to the tax credits people and they have said weare entitled to £40 per week tax credits. This being based on last years combinedwages.
Will we have to wait till next year for a change in taxcredits as my hours at work have been cut and my wife is no longer getting awage.
And having never claimed any other sort of tax creditsbefore, are we entitled to apply for any other sort of financial help!?
Many thanks

If your income has gone down a lot you can get more tax credits now, if you phone them with an estimate for this year.
But make sure your estimate isn't too low otherwise you'll have an overpayment. If your income does go up give them a ring straight away - if it goes up a lot you might have an overpayment even if you tell them straight away, but then you'll be able to put money aside so don't let that stop you claiming now while you need the money.0 -
Hi
Do I call the tax office after I have received my taxcredits award notice? When I filled the form in I could not see anywhere to addabout the drop in income for this year!
Many thanks

There isn't anywhere, you have to phone them. You don't have to wait for your award notice.pompeyfan1 wrote: »Hi

We were on £10 a week , then had a big drop in wages end of April, rang them up and they altered it straight away. Then had to ring again because it was less than i originally told them and they altered it again....If you go on the HMRC website you will get a rough idea of what you will get. But when you go on put your income as £2500 more than it is to give you a more acurate figure...When it gives you a figure remember to divide it by how many weeks are left til the next tax yr (Its about 37 wks i think) and that will tell you how much a week you will get..0
