Share wifi access on HTC Desire S

I have a HTC Desire S phone on BT mobile

I get free wifi access on my phone through BT Openzone.

Is it possible to share this access when my phone is connected so I can use through my laptop

All the tethering info I can find uses the mobiles 3g connection and not wifi

well according to the 2nd post on this thread you can, connect to the wifi hotspot with your phone and then share your phones internet connection via USB to the laptop, that's it, it will use the wifi hotspot as the data connection and not the 3G.
if you turn off your mobile data then you can test it without risking using up your 3G.

I would definatly turn off your mobile data as Shaun_d123 says otherwise you will end up getting charged for tethering costs, however i'm sure you can only use your desire to set up a wifi hotspot ie use your phones 3g connection or if you had a computer that has a net connection you can connect the phone via that and use the computers internet connection, hope this helps !

I'm not sure this is going to work. Out of curiosity I tried it on my Wildfire and found that when the wifi hotspot is activated it automatically disabled the phone's wifi access, and when I manually switched the wifi back on it turned off the hotspot. It looks to me like hotspot access has to be through the mobile data network.

Yes when I go to tether and have wifiturned on, the hotspot turns wifi off and switches to 3g.

When I CNN t phone to PC via USB cable I get the optionfor PC to share phones internets access or vice versa but I haven't managed to get either of these to work yet
