Barclays bank scandal exposed

  • Yeah I sort of agree with PBA here. I didnt think the programme was that balanced. Out of all of the hundreds of branches, they came accross a couple of rouge ones. Yes these things do happen with "sales" type posts and I didnt see anything to think wow. Yes incorrect and wrong but nothing scandolous.

The part where cash was transferred into somone elses account unlawfully and the part where the account was opened up illegally without ID, there is nothing new here. This is not barclays these are individuals committing illegal acts for personal again. You will get rogues working in all different banks not just barcalys. Dont get me wrong I hate with a passion barclays bank, but the journalism seemed sensationilist and one sided and really didnt show us anything that we didnt suspect was going on.

I have to say dissappointed with the programme which was biased and mediocre, and nothing I didnt already expect.

If the merger with ABN Amro goes ahead, there'll be lots of changes. AFAIK Barclays is aiming to take ABN over, and if it turns into a hostile bid, ABN may not be able to do anything about it. Barclays are changing their UK operations around anyway - I've just recruited a woman to join us who has spent 4 years in a Barclays department which is being merged internally and centralised already.
I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.
  • Programs like this are always aimed at the general public who dont know as much as a regular moneysaver would do. A lot of people know how big corporations really work, especially when it comes to sales, but they still seem to have a positive public image. The program was trying to educate people a bit.

I met a friend of a friend who works for barclaycard and as I had a barclaycard he told me to call him at work and he would credit my account for me.... with operations as large as these banks, individuals can do a lot of questionable things, and the micro management is always going to be lacking, i think.

My dad is with barclays premier at the mo too but they constantly ignore his instructions and do things with his money that he either doesnt want or has said specifically not to.

I work for a large company myself and visited one of our call centres during some internal training - I was shocked to see our 'utility switching service' dept tell people they had compared gas/elec suppliers in their area and found that 'Supplier A' was more competitive than their current supplier. When I asked how they knew that Supplier A was cheaper I was told that although it usually was cheaper, they never said it was cheaper, just 'more competitive'.

    :(
