There is no standard minimum spend. I went through a period of buying my newspaper with my credit card.0

AFAIK, there is not a minimum limit.
However, some shops (corner shops, for example) will set their own minimum but that it up to them to chose.0 -
Thanks for the prompt responses guys. I thought the minimum spend is £5 but apparently I'm mistaken. King Of Fools, I think you're right about some shops setting their own minimum.
I usually pay for small spends by cash, but want to start paying by CC as much as possible - just didn't want to make a fool of myself at the tills if I didn't have the cash! G0 -
Lots of shops (especially larger places and chains) are fairly happy to accept credit and debit cards for even fairly small transactions - certainly paying for things costing £2 or more seems to be fairly normal. Some small places will refuse on the basis that (especially for small companies) the fee can be significantly larger than the cost of handling cash on small transactions.
When you give the card to someone and you're not sure if they're going to accept it, pay with it as if there's no doubt at all about whether it's going to be accepted or not - that way, unless the shop has a very firm "nothing under £5" policy, they almost certainly won't refuse. I worked in a small retailer for quite a long time - the official policy was to accept cards for any amount, and if someone just handed the card over then we'd always take. If someone wandered in looking a bit hesitant and said "i don't suppose you'd take a credit card on that £1.40?" then some of the staff would take it upon themselves to guess that we shouldn't accept it and would refuse.0 -

The minimum is the lowest coin of the realm: a penny.43580

Nothing if you get a full refund for it.
It's usually the small shops that impose a minimum spend for card transactions. Always £5 from my experience.
But anywhere else will accept paying for the cheapest of items with a card.I know nothing0 -
I buy £1 worth of petrol at supermarkets monthly to keep my Barclaycard 0% for life on track. Well into its third year.ac's lovechild0
