Our dbl glazed door opens from outside without key????

Hi,

We live in a housing association house and recently they done our doors and windows double glazed. The following night we got burgled.

We noticed that when we shut the home main door and some one from outside push the door handle down our door opens....(with no key)

I than tried to lock the door from inside by pushing the door handle up and than ask my brother to open the door from outside again he simply pushed the handle down and the door opens.

I asked few friends/family and they said when they simply shut the main door they need a key to open to get in so I am bit confused.

We called the double glazing company and they said all new double glazed doors work like this.

Is that correct or they installed an internal door to the main or messed up the lock

Many thanks
T

Unlocked-if you just shut the door,it will latch but not lock so can be opened by pushing handle down inside or out.

Lock-lift handle up,insert key, turn to lock, move handle down to check it doesnt open..

They all work this way unless you specify a special slamlock.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

This is how the vast majority of UPVC doors work - lifting the handle engages the multipoint mechanism (try it with the door open to see), but it isn't until you turn the key (from either side) that the whole lot is locked into position.

You can get doors that have a pad handle (see here to see what they look like: http://www.upvcdiystore.co.uk/hoppe/door-handle---leverpad/), these will require a key to get in from outside. They latch when shut, but would still require the handle to be lifted and the lock applied to engage the full locking mechanism of the door. These styles have a more complex mechanism, so tend to cost more...
