Help! My Nokia 6300 won't connect to computer....'usb device not recognised???!'

Hi guys,

Have a Nokia 6300. Have downloaded from nokia both pc suites & the correct connectivity driver.

I select 'nokia' mode when connected by USB. Message says 'USB device not recognised. One of the USB devices attached has malfunctioned or windows does not recognise it'.

When i go to 'my computer' the nokia browser is there-click on it but NOTHING inside? Any ideas? Need to send some pix by e-mail urgently.

Thans if anyone can advise?:j

if you just want to transfer files, uninstall the software (optional - but keeps your pc free of bloat), and select the data transfer mode on the phone, it should then just appear as a drive letter in explorer where you can copy and paste files.

Bluetooth would be a better option if your computer has it-if not, a USB Bluetooth adapter is very cheap.

I've tried to 'pair device' but my phone says 'no device found' and I've checked I've unhidden my phone.

OP - Did you uninstall nokia pc suite and nokia connectivity driver?

Does an external drive or flash drive work?

If the phone can't find the PC then that indicates a Bluetooth issue with the PC. not the phone. Can other Bluetooth devices see the PC?

Hi! Thanks-will look into bluetooth adaptor. I uninstalled connectivity driver & pc suite & re-installed. It does recognise a flash drive? Any further ideas?

I was hoping to send some pix today to an e-mail address in France.

You don't need any Nokia software installed at all to transfer files, if you select the data storage mode on the phone, windows should see your phone as a mass storage device, as it does with any flash memory or external disk. The fact this works with other flash devices on your machine, suggests your mass storage device driver is working.

So if you haven't already tried it, uninstall all nokia software, reboot, and try data storage mode on the phone, a new disk letter should appear in explorer.

An alternative is to take the sd card out, and plug into laptop (using a poundshop usb-sd adapter if you machine doesn't have sd/mmc ports)
