Tibet Visa problem

We had booked a tour of China and Tibet for this September but our travel company has just phoned to say that currently no Tibet visas are being issued to some countries, the UK being one. This situation appears to have been ongoing for several months now.
I must admit that I hadn't picked this up in the news media. Anyone know anymore details about what this is about and if it will end soon. Travel company were not enthusiastic about it finishing in the near future

Welcome to China!
Ask the travel company what they propose to give you instead of the time in Tibet: there are large regions of China that are just like Tibet (and historically and geographically are Tibet) but are outside the political unit known as Tibet and so should still be available.
Alternatively: if you want to experience Tibetan culture then you should head for India. Many important monasteries, and much of the heartland of Tibet, are actually in regions that fell under British control and so are classified as being part of India, which means that they escaped the devastation that most of Tibet itself has suffered under Chinese rule.0 -

This is good advice.
Himachal Pradesh would be the perfect state to head to, and Ladakh region.
That said, I guarantee if the OP heads to Kathmandu he will get a visa for Tibet. They give them out like candy there.0
