Leak from pipe in guttering

Hi, hoping someone on here can offer advice. On the guttering at the top of the back of the house there are two small white pipes sticking out, last night one of them started leaking water. I have done a few online searches and it seems it's something to do with the water tank in the loft. Is it something we can fix ourselves? If not who should I call and is it covered under my insurance at all? Or would I not need to claim on that? Sorry for all the questions but am slightly clueless and have had good advice on here before

Description makes it sound like it is the overflow for either a central heating expansion tank or the cold water header tank.
Depending on the circumstances it could be a problem with your C/H system or it could be as simple as the float valve needs adjusting or replacing in one of these tanks.
The other possibility is a bit of muck is preventing the valve from cutting off the system (and it just needs a bit of a clean).
Replacing or adjusting a float valve is simple for someone comfortable to be in a loft / ladder work and minor competence in DIY.
You will need to isolate the water before working on either.
Usually there is a shut off valve just where the water enters the tank.
If it is a problem with the C/H system then that depends on what it is and how good your DIY is.0 -
Thanks alleycat. I'm going to get DH on to this tomorrow. If it is something with the central heating system I have british gas homecare cover for that so hopefully that should be covered. Hopefully it is just the float valve thing as that seems a lot easier to sort!0
