Missed weekend trip due to power cut

13th July 10.45am
We should be on The Eurostar right now on our way to Paris for our 2 night Anniversary weekend (we booked non-flexible tickets)
Unfortunately there was a power-cut during last night and when the power came back on the clocks reverted to 00.00 to start again and consquently our 4am alarm was delayed by the length of the power cut, which was approx 3 hours. So we woke too late to catch the train.
I have contacted our travel insurers (not covered for power cuts), also Scottish Power (who said to contact Eon) and Eon who said they do not compensate for issues resulting from a power cut.
On top of the huge disappointment we are also considerable out of pocket and it's appears to be no-ones responsibility....
£378.00 for Eurostar tickets
£35.50 for pre-paid parking near St. Pancras
77 Euros one night no-show charge by the hotel in Paris
Please advise

Get a battery/clockwork alarm or use your phone.0

Try the insurance people again and grovel.
Try 'over sleeping' rather than power cuts.
Otherwise, dont think there is anything you can do to be honest.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Apart from taking it to the FOS.
I imagine it would depend on whether a) the travel insurance taken out covered 'missed departure' and b) how that was worded, what exclusions were specified etc. I wouldn't necessarily take the insurers word for it that 'you're not covered for power cuts'.0 -

Did you phone Eurostar when you woke up to see whether they would let you on a later train?0 -

That would only happen if the powercut took place at midnight exactly :cool:0 -
A non- starter for liability I'm afraid, as the power cut whether in your home or on the train to the airport or Eurostar terminal are all consequential losses, and as such not covered by standard policies. However, I' old enough not to trust only a mains powered alarm for that very reason, and alway have a battery-powered alternative.
It was only useful once, but that proved to me that you always need a backup!0 -
Not necessarily. My alarm clock is switched off at the moment as it's not needed. If I switch it on right now, it will read 00:00. As would my parents' stereo, although my ipod dock in the kitchen will show the correct time. That would only happen if the powercut took place at midnight exactly "Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

Same as my electric alarm clock ....if the electric goes off the time will always be 00.00 when it comes back on.The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Unfortunately, I think you'll be lucky to get anything back unless you can claim for missed departure. My alarm clock is on my mobile so no problem if there's a power cut. My advice would be that if you have to be up for something important then set alarm on something battery operated as a back up in case of a power cut.0

OP Your clock is still roughly 30 mins out, the time in your post is half an hour before you posted it.0
