in Credit cards
I posted last week as I tried to switch my available credit on my existing MBNA card to another MBNA card which I had just applied for (Virgin) to take advantage of the 0% for 13 months offer. However, I was turned down for this card as they said my limit on my existing card was sufficient (being £9,000).
I have today 'phoned to see if I can appeal this and was told that in comparison to my salary (£22,000) my outstanding debts (roughly £24,000) is very high and therefore that is why I was turned down for the Virgin card. I stated that I only wanted to transfer the available credit (being £6800) (not balance) on my existing card to the new card to take advantage of the 0% offer. I couldn't seem to get this through to the person on the other end of the 'phone, when I stated that it was strange that they would offer me this limit on one card but not another he stated that perhaps the credit limit I had been given was too high - I'm now worried that they will reduce my credit limit which will scupper my getting debt free plans - Any one been in a similar situation and had their credit limit lowered?
Thanks

What a surprise! Less than 20 minutes after I had contacted Abbey they have (as predicted) 'phoned to lower my credit limit by £5,000! Will move balance to another card and close account I think!
Don't you just love MBNA!0
