Replacing uPVC window handle?

Hi all,

I managed to snap off the handle of a window at home. It is a uPVC handle and I was wondering how easy is it to fix it myself (I have very limited DIY knowledge/ experience)?

I have attached a picture to show the type of locking mechanism it uses

Any advise would be much appreciated:T

  • Flick the black plastic cap off to reveal the bolt and remove that and the other take it down to your local window company and they may have similiar the only thing which may be different is spindle length

Plus if they don't use that type they will probably tell you what make they are and who uses them in the area. You can find them on ebay

I have used handlestore.com following a recommendation on here, they have a wide range of handles and delivery was prompt.
  • I think the spindle length is 12mm and when I purchased a replacement handle with a spindle of 15mm, it didn't work lol

My question is, if I purchase one that is 10mm, will it work? or does it have to be exactly 12mm? It seems the 12mm ones are not as widely available as the 10mm and 15mm ones....?
  • just cut the spindle down with a hacksaw

If it is just the spindle length that you're concerned about then can't you use the one you have if you've only snapped the handle ?

also - another vote for handlestore.com - especially for hard to find sizes.
