In my local post office there are three members of staff and each one does something different when I ask for proof of postage for second class large letters or packets.
One hand writes the full address on the receipt but doesn't date stamp it.
One just writes the house number (or house name) followed by the postcode but doesn't stamp it.
One also writes just the house name / number and post code but does stamp it.
Would it make any difference in the event of something going missing which method was used? The date and branch address are on the receipt so is the manual stamp required?
I was also wondering about the legibility of the staff hand writing which can be very poor at times and occasionally I have noticed that they have made mistakes - fortunately, so far, easily rectifiable things like the stroke missing off a Q etc. But what if they wrote the wrong postcode and you didn't notice?
When it's First Class they input the postcode and it gets printed on the receipt - pity they don't do this for second class - it doesn't take any more time than handwriting it I'm sure.

In my post office they just write the postcode on the bottom of the receipt. I've had to make a couple of lost post claims in the last 12 months and both of them I got full refunds, so I would say all of your receipts are fine as proof of postage.0

I think the handstamp is the important thing."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I've never had a ink stamp on my Proof of Postings unless I've used a posting machine within the branch (instead of going to a counter) those need to be ink stamped to show a member of staff has seen it.
Posted two 2nd class parcels this morning and she just wrote the house number & postcode on the receipts which say on them they are proof of posting.0 -
Any proof of posting from the computer does NOT need to be stamped.
The only proof of postings that should be stamped are the 'bulk proof of posting' which the sender has filled in (available to download on royalmail) or the old pad style proof of postings.0 -
My P.O. just hands me the receipts and I write the buyers name on them myself for my records. No stamp.
I have claimed a dozen times for lost items and never had a problem.0
