Sounds yummy-would you mind posting the recipes for your mains please and the scones-what is Cheezly??
I got to all but last meal and lost my post!!!! Twice in a couple of days that's happened
Ok. Here goes again. Hope this helps Janeryan
This is Cheezly. We have the mature red cheddar style. I usually prefer Sheese but MIL gave us the pack which she must have bought in for my girls and never got around to giving it to them. The scones are 100g marg rubbed into 400g self raising flour with a good pinch ground black pepper; I'll mix in some grated Cheezly, dried thyme and grate in the pear that has been hanging around the fruit bowl; mix in 200ml soya milk and about 1-2 tsp malt vinegar. Shape into about 10 balls and bake at 180C for 20 minutes. I find scones for lunches loads more economical than sarnies with bought bread (which we prefer to homemade for pack-ups.) Always well received too cos looks like I made an effort
Right I made 2 pizza tarts. Rolled out bought puff pastry. I spread one with Tofutti garlic herb cream cheese and topped with a sliced large button mushroom I found at the back of the fridgeOther had the last of the Reggae Reggae ketchup, frozen sweetcorn and Cheezly on. Baked 15-20 mins at 200C.
My mince is usually some combo of quinoa or soya mince and lentils. Sunday I covered bottom of slow cooker with dried soya mince then a more sparse scattering of puy lentils. Mixed yeast extract and plain flour with a little cold water to a paste, then hot water in and poured into cooker. Added 2 large chopped onions. Cooked for a few hours. Enough left for 2 plate pies; will just fill shortcrust pastry and bake at 180C for about 40 minutes.
I forgot to get pienapple for my sweet n sour. It will just be carrots, onions, green cabbage, frozen peas, cubed tofu then sauce of half passata/half water with soy sauce, vinegar and lime juice cooked in slow cooker.
Mediterranean Bean Stew will be whatever I decide on the day, but probably beans with celery and carrot in sauce of half passata/half water, yeast extract, garlic and oregano.
Veg Soup again will be whatever hanging around: green cabbage, carrot, onion, red lentils, the last of the passata, yeast extract, a bay leaf. Salt and pepper to taste. My bread is a basic white loaf: 1 tbsp dried yeast in 300ml warm water with couple drops maple syrup (or sugar) left for 10 mins, then add to 500g white flour (bread, plain or self raising will do) and mix (I find about 4 mins will do, too lazy for the full 10.) Leave covered for 1 hour. Put in oiled 500g loaf tin, cover and leave another half hour or so. Bake at 200C for 30 minutes.
The Floddies are similar to these with following changes: grated apple in place of swede, no garam masala or garlic. I make chips by leave skins on potatoes, cut into chips and put on a baking tray with drizzle rapeseed oil, pinch of smoked sea salt and ground black pepper then toss around. Bake on high for about 20 minutes, tossing half way through.
Also, Emma Jane: thanks for that, might give the steak ones a miss then!Love and compassion to all x0 -

Good morning all
Here is my weekly plan (minus the weekends when everybody do their own thing, so it is hard to plan):
Breakfasts: eggs, homemade baked beans, porridge, toast, homemade jam, as it comes and depending on how much time there is
Lunches: DH: packed lunch of salad with either tuna, cheese (feta, cheedar, mozzarella) or homemade felafel. For us at home usually veg soup and salad, or salad with a protein (cheese, egg if not eaten at breakfast, hummus, etc).
Dinners:
Monday: Chick peas in tomato sauce. Pasta for the family, vege burgers for me. Mixed salad. Maybe choc brownies (or yogurt & fruit)
Tuesday: vege mince stuffed marrow, potatoes for the family, sauteed greens
Wednesday: Ratatouille with vege sausages, couscous for the family, green beans for me
Thursday: Tofu, cabbage, marrow, pepper and mushroom stir fry, (with rice for the family), salad.
Friday: If DD (vegetarian) is out: fish in sauce. If DD in, chunky soya in sauce plus potatoes for the family, coleslaw.
Puddings throughout the week: biscuits, yogurt, stewed rhubarb, apple, raspberries, anything that I find stickered in the supermarket, cheese and nuts. Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
savesummore wrote: »Hi,
As i said above im a novice in the kitchen
Your mince beef and onions do you just fry them together? Is there anything else in with them? Do you make gravy and put that in?
Could I have your ham hock and bean recipe please?
Sorry if im asking daft questions :rotfl:
Thanks
Hi savesummore,
Every question is a valid one.
With regard to the mince I fry it in a little oil first until the mince has turned brown then add the chopped onions and continue frying them until they start to turn brown around the edges. At this stage I will add my stock, either home made or made with a stock cube.
Bring to the boil and simmer for about 30-40 mins until the mince is cooked.
After the mince has cooked you can thicken it using either cornflour and water or butter and flour. Use as much as you need to get the consistancy you want.
Serve with mashed potatoes and your vegetables of choice.
There are lots of variations you could make to this dish I encourage you to experiment and let us know how you get on.
I will post my recipe for Ham Hock Casserole with Haricot Beans later.
best wishes
