My son is going on a school trip in 10 days to Germany with the school,he needs enough food for the first days travelling which is not a problem. But he also needs food for the travelling home,5 days later.
His teacher suggested plenty of crisps/museli (sp?) bars and drinks, but I dont like that idea because it`s just pure junk.
Can anyone give me some ideas what I can pack for him for his return journey 5 days later.Obviously it cant be anything what will go off without being in a fridge.

It seems odd that this wouldn't be provided at the end of the holiday rather than expecting the children to bring it. Apart from the problem of keeping it fresh, there's obviously the temptation of eating it before the journey.
I can only think of oat cakes/crackers/rice crackers and some kind of spread that keeps like peanut butter. Dried fruit, cartons of juice. I'm not sure how much of a shelf life potato scones or pancakes have. That might be an option.
And a couple of cereal bars and packets of crisps won't do any harm as it's a special occasion.
They're not making it exactly easy for parents are they! I hope he has a great time.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
i ended up giving my son extra money when he went away so that he could get something to eat on the way back, i made it perfectly clear that under no circumstances should it be touched untill his return journey and it was separated and hidden in his bag. he and several others just ended up getting a mcdonalds at a service station somewhere en route. he also got sent with a large water bottle to reuse on the way back. if i had packed food knowing my son it would either end up eaten in a midnight muchies eating fest or it would all of ended in crumbs in the bottom of his bag...boys :rolleyes:proper prior planning prevents !!!!!! poor performance!Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat moneyquote from an american indian.0

Hi
What a thing to ask, my son would probably munch it all way before the return trip.
Does your son like jam? Those little sealed packs ( like the ones at cafes) will last, remember to pack a plastic knife. The jam could be used with crackers, ricecakes etc. Packets of raisins, dried fruit, cheese straws are also easy to pack.SSB0 -

Be careful some of these trips won't stop at burger places on the way back if they've said to pack food, and not all rest (toilet) stops have fast food places next to them.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. Dried fruit and nuts are always good... low sugar muesli bars, tinned fruit? The ones that fit in lunch boxes I mean.DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

What a thing to ask! Please bring a packed lunch that's going to keep for a week with no special storage facilities & don't be tempted to eat it in the mean time:p:eek:
Would HM flapjacks keep if well wrapped? These are quite filling so might be suitable if they will keep? I'd wrap indvidually in cling flim then put in a tupperware box to prevent them getting squashed onto a weeks worth of dirty laundry though:rolleyes:
Good luck, rather you than me dealing with this one!;)Post Natal Depression is the worst part of giving birth:p

Thanks for the suggestions, seems he`s gunna end up with more sweet things than savory. He likes the ideas of me giving him biscuits, crisps and cereal bars.Acutally managed to talk him into taking some ritz cheese crackers with him,but thats about it on the savory side of things.
I guess he`s gunna pig out on all the nice sweet things while he`s there and leave the crackers for on the way home.
He is gunna take some money with him incase they do stop at some services though.
Thanks again for your suggestions.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0
