Our charity is doing a fete at the local park and I would like to know what to put in the float; so that we have enough change to give out for purchased made by visitors.
How much float would be advisable and how to break this down in how much 50p's £1's etc. Is there a web site that advises you on how to work it out?
I know that it depends on how busy the fete is, so a guide would very much be welcome. We are planning on pricing everything to the nearest 50p, so that we have less change to hand out.
Thanks.

If I do a carboot or even fayre at school, I always take a £25 float
2 x £5 notes
£10 in £1.00 coins
£5 mixed of 20p and 10ps
like yourselves I never price anything with a 5p too fiddly to play around with change.
You can always guarantee that someone will come with £10 note, hense the fivers, also try to avoid giving change to another stall holder to early on, I know its nice to help, but you don't want to give your whole float then struggle yourselves.
xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -

This isn't an exact science, but I used to make a list of all the stalls, and what they were going to charge, and then make sure that all the busiest stalls had enough in their float to cover giving change of a £10 note at least once - that's the raffle and tombola kind of thing, although TBH you're likely to find people buying £10 worth of tickets ...
'Quieter' stalls I think I provided change for £5. But that's a long time ago, when there were more £5 notes in circulation! Might double it to £10 and £20 if I were doing it today (and I would instruct all stall holders NOT to accept £50 notes, but to send them to me, and I'd have one of those test pens and use it!)
But you do need some £1 coins, definitely.
Make sure each stall has a written note of how much their float is. People do like knowing how much they've taken.Signature removed for peace of mind0
